Stéphane Elbaz

Stéphane Elbaz is a type & graphic designer. Originally from Paris, he started a career as an independent designer before relocating to New York in 2008. Through design agencies and as an in-house Design Director he devoted much of his time to work on digital publishing. First, as a side project, he maintained his passion for type design and published fonts with the respected French type foundry Typofonderie. In 2018 he launched General Type Studio, his own platform to release font projects. He lives in Paris since 2020.

He served as a Design Director for agencies such as Work & Co, and Code & Theory, and publications such as The Intercept and The Outline. Projects and clients include The LA Times, Yves Saint Laurent, MSNBC, Interview Magazine, FOX Sports, Vanity Fair, and GQ for Condé Nast France, Art in America, Stiletto Magazine, Hodinkee, and Sephora.

Additionally, Stéphane has taught Type Design at Cooper Union and Type Paris design programs. His work has been distinguished by awards including The Type Directors Club of New York, Webby Awards, Society of Publication Designers, D&AD, Club des DA, and Communication Arts.
